Minimalist Lifestyle: Watching the Birds

I've been filling bags, boxes, throwing away anything broken and there is still so much stuff! It's amazing how much can accumulate in your home while you're not paying attention!

In the middle of letting go of the unnecessary things in my life I have discovered what is necessary. One of those things is admiring all the life around me. I found myself watching the birds that come into my yard more than I have in previous years. I run and grab my camera to get quick shots of them before they hurry off, I watch them hunt for food among the grass, and I sit out in my yard to watch and catch a close up view with my binoculars. I listen to them sing and notice the patterns of the flapping of their wings.

It's not that I never watched the birds I guess, but I definitely watch them more now and I enjoy it. I'm sure you can and maybe do enjoy these things even if your house is packed to the ceilings with stuff but, for me anyway, I attribute this new enjoyment in the fact that I'm letting go of all the chaos and living a life of purpose. Even though my house has a long way to go I don't care so much if everything isn't in its place before I enjoy a moment to sit and watch our visitors.

Enjoying God's creatures has brought me just another avenue of praising Him. What a creative God we have that has made all these birds for us to enjoy! So stop organizing all that stuff for a bit and go out and listen to our beautiful feathery friends today.
